William Hessel Library
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Frequently Asked Questions at the Hessel Library.
Confused about how to access the Online Catalog, e.g., do you
need to log in? What about logging into the library computers
in the library lab? Setting an account on netLibrary? Finding
library database password info on WaveLink? Here are the answers:
Library Lab and Library Main Floor Computers.
Each computer in the library has its own
Novell Netware login. Posted at the top of the monitor is the
login name. The main floor computers are libnet-1 through libnet-12.
The lab computers are L105-1 through L105-24. They do not require
a password. Remember you will need to know which PC you are using
to retrieve your printouts.
Online Catalog on the Library's Web Page. Online
Catalog (Two options for searching.)
- Without logging in. Enter your keyword search in the
keyword search box or click on advanced search.
- Logging in. Click on "My Account" and log
in with your 8 digit student ID number and 6 digit
birth date to access the Online Catalog. You can change your
password to keep your account secure.
- Logging in allows you to access and search simultaneously
the Online Catalog and selected databases on and
off campus. (A great way to receive results from book and
magazine sources at the same time!)
- Logging in also allows students at the Bertrand Crossing
and South Haven campuses to reserve titles and allows all
students (LMC/Siena Heights) to renew checked out materials
online.
If Siena Heights students have
not been entered in the library circulation system, they may find
they can't log into the Online Catalog. (But one can still search
the Catalog as a guest by clicking on "search catalog.")
Current Siena Heights students should stop by the Circulation
Desk to get entered into the circulation/catalog system. Once
entered in the system, their usernamer will be their 6 digit number,
and password will initially be their birthdate.
netLibrary.
netLibrary is the ONLY database
where students need to create their own unique username/password
account while on campus in order to search netLibrary from
off campus. When you are on a LMC campus, and using an Internet
computer, go to the library's Web page, select the Library Catalogs/Books
link and locate the netLibrary
login link. Click on "create an account." Fill out the
online form. The username and password you select will be unique
only to you. You then will use this information off campus
in order to access netLibrary with over 23,000 eBooks available.
Library Database Info (Passwords) on WaveLink or Print List
in the Library.
There is a print listing of the library's
available databases with off campus username/password information
for each of these databases available for LMC and Siena Heights
students to pick up in the library. LMC students can also access
WaveLink,
and click on the Academic Resources tab, to access this
same listing with off campus password information.
