A week long summer camp to keep the kids busy (and learning) during the summer months! Minimum age is 8, with a maximum age of 17 for this camp. Come to the Fab Lab, meet new friends and create some cool "stuff".

This week-long camp will meet Monday through Thursday and teach the participants how to use the laser cutter and engraver. Breakdown of the camp is as follows:

Monday - Participants will learn how to safely operate the equipment in the lab. They will also start prepping all the materials for the upcoming week. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty (or more specifically painted) because we will be painting on this day (Prepping for all the upcoming projects). First project the participants will create is a personalized potted plant. Each participant will be able to laser engrave their painted pot. After engraving the pot, participants will learn how to plant their flower (or vegetable plant) as well as how to care for their plant.

Tuesday - Participants will laser engrave their own personalized cork bulletin board. They will personalize their board to hang in their house or bedroom. We will also finish up any plants that need to be finished

Wednesday - Participants will laser cut and engrave their own coaster set. We will start with a piece of plywood and they will cut the coasters to size, personalize them with whatever logo they want (or design themselves) and create a holder for the coasters.

Thursday - Participants will be able to finish up whatever project(s) that were not completed during the week. Participants will also be able to learn other machines in the lab so they can utilize the lab in the future for upcoming school or personal projects.
Camp will meet every day from 1pm-4pm to beat the heat of the summer. Open lab time will immediately follow the camp, so participants will have the option to stay if they would like to work on other projects in the Fab Lab (charges may apply for 3D printing and other items that are not included in this camp). Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and other friends are encouraged to stop by or hang out with the campers during the open lab time.

Our camps are designed for the participants to learn to come up with problem solving techniques and "make things". Sometimes, this involves failing, returning to the original concept and trying again. We want to create an environment of trying, re-thinking the process, and trying again to make the design better. We believe this approach encourages creative thinking and determination in addition to exposing them to new technologies.

Registration for this camp closes one week prior to allow time to purchase required materials. Registration is limited to the first 10 participants. Projects are subject to change based on material availability. Once registered, you'll receive an email asking for the participant(s) name, age, and gender for our instructor's roster. If you have questions, please email them to fablab@lakemichigancollege.edu

The Fab Lab is a place where students can build science, technology, engineering and math skills through hands on learning. Participating in Fab Lab activities allow students to explore and experiment with digital fabrication technology including 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and Vinyl Cutters.

Tickets are $125 and available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fab-lab-laser-summer-camp-fun-kids-week-tickets-44925012923
