Student Support

Lake Michigan College offers a comprehensive range of support services to ensure student success and well-being:

Academic Support Services

  • Math Lab: Struggling in MATH 122 (Intermediate Algebra) or MATH 123 (Quantitative Reasoning)? The LMC Math Lab, located in Room B-212 on the Benton Harbor Campus, offers FREE tutoring, study tips, and resources to help students boost their confidence and improve their math skills.
  • Tutoring: LMC provides free tutoring to all currently enrolled students. Tutors assist with homework, test preparation, studying, and test strategies. LMC tutors are certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), ensuring high-quality academic support.
  • Writing Lab: The Writing Lab is available for LMC students needing help with their writing. Trained staff provide one-on-one writing consultations for course assignments and other writing projects. Whether students need help brainstorming, structuring, or refining their writing, the Writing Center offers valuable assistance.
  • Loaner LaptopsTRiO Student Support Services can assist students who need to borrow a laptop or calculator for classes.
  • TRiO Student Support ServicesA federally funded program assisting first-generation, low-income, or students with disabilities in completing their associate degrees and transferring to four-year institutions. Services include academic advising, individual tutoring, study skills workshops, and transfer campus visits. 

Student Well-Being and Accessibility

  • Counseling Services: Offers mental health counseling and life coaching to support students' personal development and well-being. 
  • Disability Support Services: Ensures equitable access by providing accommodations and resources for students with disabilities. Red Hawk Snack Shacks ensure students can focus on their education, not hunger. Need a boost before class? Grab a snack from the shack! These snack stations are available on campus for students needing quick nourishment.
  • Red Hawk Refuel Food Pantry: Many students experience food insecurity during their time at Lake Michigan College. To help students during difficult times, LMC has established the Red Hawk Refuel Food Pantry, ensuring access to essential food items.

Student Life and Engagement

  • Campus Life Office: Encourages involvement through clubs, organizations, volunteer opportunities, leadership events, and social activities, fostering a vibrant campus community. 
  • On-Campus Housing: Beckwith Hall offers state-of-the-art amenities, including in-suite kitchens, laundry facilities, and private bedrooms, enhancing the on-campus living experience. 

Career and Transfer Services

  • Career Center: Provides resources and guidance for career planning, job searches, and professional development.
  • Transfer Information: Assists students in planning and executing successful transfers to four-year institutions. 

Veterans' Services

  • Veterans' Services: Lake Michigan College is recognized as a silver-level institution by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency for its commitment to supporting veterans. LMC provides veteran-friendly services, helping military-affiliated students navigate their education successfully.
