Alumni Achievement Award: Dana Slagle

Dana Harris Slagle is an associate editor at Jet magazine in Chicago where she researches and writes on topics ranging from education and entertainment to health and fitness. An advocate for raising health awareness in the African-American community, her work has been honored with the 2007 Media Fellowship from the Association of Healthcare Journalists and the 2006 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Media Award. In 2007, she was accepted into the “Medicine in the Media” program by the National Institute of Health.

Dana earned an Associate in Arts degree from LMC in 1993. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at Western Michigan University and a Master of Arts degree in journalism from Michigan State University.

Prior to working at Jet, Dana was a features writer for the Herald-Palladium. During that time, she worked for LMC as a Basic Writing adjunct instructor.

Dana Slagle received the Alumni Achievement Award in 2007.
