Alumni Achievement Award: Melissa Zmyslo

An HIV prevention specialist for the Berrien County Health Department, Melissa Zmyslo provides HIV testing and counseling, works on case reporting and presents HIV training in the community and schools.

Through her efforts, Berrien County has been recognized by the State for its improved client return rate and has made an impact with its outreach education. Melissa is chair of the HIV/STD/AIDS subcommittee of the Benton Harbor Health Awareness/Improvement task force, which was appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm. She also worked as a teacher at the LINK Crisis Intervention Center and as a youth specialist at the Berrien County Juvenile Center.

She graduated with honors from LMC with an Associate in Arts degree and earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Central Michigan University. An avid musician, Melissa is a member of the Southshore Concert Band and is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Melissa Zmyslo received the Alumni Achievement Award in 2008.
