Bernard C. Radde Distinguished Service Award: Mabel Johnson Mayfield

Mabel Johnson Mayfield was awarded the Bernard C. Radde Distinguished Service Award in 2009.

The Honorable Mabel Johnson Mayfield has demonstrated a commitment to advancing the community through literacy, scholarship and diversity. Judge Mayfield was appointed to the Berrien County Probate Bench in January of 2000 and has been re-elected to that position. She currently serves as a judge in the Family Division of the Berrien County Trial Court.

Judge Mayfield was the recipient of the College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Award in 2004 and served as LMC’s Commencement keynote speaker in 2002. 

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Krannert School of Management - Purdue University and received her Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law.

She is a devoted community volunteer, serving on the boards of several organizations including the Consortium for Community Development, the Benton Harbor  Readiness Center, and the Area Agency on Aging. She is also a lifetime member of the NAACP.
