Alumni Service Award: Karen Kietzer
Karen (Kolberg) Kietzer journey toward a life in education began when she enrolled at Lake Michigan College after graduation from Lakeshore High School. She earned her Associate in Arts degree from LMC in 1967 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree, followed by master’s work in guidance/counseling through Western Michigan University.
Karen then began her career in high school education in the Galien, Watervliet and Lakeshore Public School systems. She says of LMC, “Because of my wonderful college experience, I never even thought of teaching positions outside of Berrien County.”
Karen has coupled her passion for teaching with her love of horses to work with area youth through 4-H. She has been a 4-H leader for 42 years, has led the Tyron 4-H Saddle Club for 26 years and teaches parliamentary procedure, citizenship, leadership and service. She is president of the Berrien County 4-H Foundation and participated in the Berrien County 4-H Leaders Council. Karen has been recognized with the Berrien County Outstanding 4-H Leader Award and the Gold Clover Award for 40 years of 4-H service.
Karen Kietzer received an Alumni Service Award in 2010.
