Alumni Service Award: Colleen Cullitan

Great teachers inspired Colleen Cullitan to want to learn and explore subjects that she did not realize interested her. This encouragement propelled her through school and helped her build confidence as a leader. Now, she is using her talents to encourage others through her active work with many local community groups.

Colleen is an enthusiastic board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Benton Harbor, First Tee of Benton Harbor, the Berrien County Health Plan, and the Berrien Community Foundation. She served on many of the boards for over a decade and has served several terms in an officer position.

Recently, Colleen served as president of the board of directors when the Boys & Girls Club of Benton Harbor opened two new facilities in Benton Harbor with generous
community support: the Fettig Youth Clubhouse and the Joel E. Smilow Teen Center. Both sites offer state-of-the-art technology, academic assistance, access to the arts, and physical education opportunities to more children than was possible before.

“It was a five-year process to keep our children in the forefront and meet the growing needs of the community,” Colleen stated. “We wanted to be sure that we are providing the education and tools that will give hope and act as a springboard for our children’s future.”

Colleen Cullitan received the Alumni Service Award in 2013.
