Mendel Center launches Creating Bridges Challenge Campaign

Like many performing arts theatres, conference centers, and meeting venues across the country, the COVID-19 pandemic has put the core mission of Lake Michigan College’s Mendel Center largely on hold.

With its performance and meeting spaces closed for 7 months by executive order, more than 125 scheduled events were canceled accounting for $200,000 in lost revenue. Despite a 50 percent reduction of the annual operating budget, there is still an expected gap of more than $150,000 this fiscal year.

To close that gap, in September, LMC's Mendel Center launched the Creating Bridges Challenge Campaign. Thanks to a $50,000 challenge matching grant from The Frederick S. Upton Foundation, contributions to the Mendel Center have double the impact as it looks to the future where family and friends can connect through the performing arts and celebrations.

To date, more than $20,000 has been raised, which, with the match from The Frederick S. Upton Foundation challenge grant, brings the total to $40,000 toward a $150,000 goal.
