LMC Fab Lab offers variety of Summer camps
Lake Michigan College is offering several summer camps and workshops for kids and adults in its community Fab Lab.
Digital arts camps are offered in partnership with Black Rocket Productions and designed for kids ages 8-14 of any experience level.
Events are offered in-person and will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines ser forth by the CDC, the State of Michigan and Lake Michigan College. Protocols include wearing face masks, follow social distancing recommendations, and clean equipment before and after use.

Black Rocket Summer Camp: Code Breakers
June 12-17, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8-14
Calling all future coders, programmers, & designers. Learn the basics of coding languages such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day. Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Cost $139.
Fab Lab Summer Camp: Make Your Own Instrument
June 14-17, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; age 8 and older
This week-long camp focuses on making a musical instrument out of unconventional materials, in this case computer parts. Students will learn what makes an instrument, before designing and creating their own unique piece. Instruments include aerophone (winds/brass), chordophone (string instruments), idiophone or membranophone (percussion). Cost: $119.
Black Rocket Summer Camp: Roblox Makers
June 21-24, 9 a.m.-12 p.m; ages 8 and older
Unlock the power of ROBLOX Studio, the world creation tool used by real-world ROBLOX developers. Learn how to build 3D models and create an adventure in your ROBLOX world. Bring characters to life with unique animations you design. Student-created projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Cost: $139.
Black Rocket Summer Camp: Minecraft RedStone Engineers
June 28-July 1, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8-14
Take the next step beyond simply “playing” Minecraft and become a true Redstone engineer. Expand your RedStone knowledge by constructing your own carnival with a variety of mini-games, roller coasters, and attractions powered by Redstone. Learn how to use Command and Structure blocks to incorporate them into your builds. Activate your skills and take your Minecraft structures to the next level! Students must own a Java version of Minecraft to take this class. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Cost: $139.
Fab Lab Summer Camp: For Your Health
June 28-July 1, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; ages 10-14
Explore the Fab Lab with this health science/medical themed camp. Participants will be complete a variety of projects while learning various machines. Sample projects include: Laser and sew a plushie together to practice your sutures on; learn CPR and other life saving measures; create organs with the vinyl cutter and sew an apron together to learn the digestive track; 3D print a human heart while learning the anatomy of the heart; and more. Cost: $139.
Fab Lab Summer Camp: Ukulele Building Workshop
July 6-8, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8 and older
Participants will learn how to build, decorate, string and play a wooden ukulele using a ukulele kit, laser cutters and Adobe illustrator. Cost: $109.
Fab Lab Summer Camp: Christmas in July
July 6-8, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; age 8 and older
Explore the Fab Lab with this open lab style camp with a Christmas theme. Students will be able to pick from a variety of projects while learning various machines, including laser and vinyl cutters, CNC embroidery machine, 3D printer, and Adobe Illustrator. Cost: $99.
Fab Lab Summer Camp: Baseball Technology
July 12-15, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8-12
Explore the Fab Lab with this baseball/manufacturing tech themed camp. Participants will be complete a variety of projects while learning various machines. Sample projects/activities include: How to throw properly; the art of the swing personalizing baseballs with the laser; 3D printing a baseball display case; wood turning a small baseball bat (not regulation size) and more. Cost: $129.
Fab Lab Summer Camp: Picture This
July 12-15, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; age 8 and older
Explore the Fab Lab with this photo engraving camp. Participants will complete a variety of projects once they learn how to properly convert their pictures. Students will learn how to: take stock photos and convert them into laserable files; engrave photos, clip art, text onto a variety of materials including tiles, wood, glass, and ceramic; learn Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop. Cost: $119.
Black Rocket Summer Camp: Minecraft Designers
July 19-22, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8-11
If you love Minecraft want to design your own world, this class is for you! Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using new software to design your very own objects, how to build with RedStone and Command blocks, and create custom textures to import at home or share with friends. Students must own a Java version of Minecraft to take this class. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Fab Lab Summer Camp: Video Game Building Workshop
July 26-28, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; all ages
Fans of vintage video games will create their own tabletop arcade machine. Participants will sand, paint or stain their own game cabinet and learn to wire the game and speakers. More than 50 games are available including Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga, and Dig Dug. No prior woodworking or software knowledge is required. Ticket is per arcade machine, not participant. Each ticket can have up to three family members join. Cost: $425.
Black Rocket Summer Camp: Roblox Coders & Entrepreneurs
Aug. 2-5, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8-14
Discover how to code in the Lua language while playing and designing worlds in ROBLOX. This new class combines game design concepts, coding, and fun. Young entrepreneurs will also learn how to navigate ROBLOX’s fast-growing marketplace to publish their games. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Cost: $139.

Aug. 2-5, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; age 8 and older
Explore the Fab Lab with this paint themed camp. Participants will complete a variety of projects. Activities include acrylic on lasered canvases, spray painting, using stickers and tape to create blank areas, and more. Cost: $129.
Black Rocket Summer Camp: Python Programmers
Aug. 9-12, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; ages 8-14
Want to learn the world's fastest-growing programming language favored by Google, NASA, YouTube, and the CIA? Learn how to code with Python to create engaging apps and games. Each lesson takes you step-by-step on a programming path that will let you challenge friends with fun content you create from start to finish! Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. Cost: $139.

Aug. 9-12, 1:30-4:30 p.m.; age 8 and older
Explore the Fab Lab with this open lab style camp. All departments within the Fab Lab will opened and stationed with a tech to guide the students through their projects each day. Students will be able to pick from a variety of projects while learning various machines. Cost: $139.

The Fab Lab is a place where participants can build science, technology, engineering, and math skills through hands-on learning. Participating in Fab Lab activities allow participants to explore and experiment with digital fabrication technology including 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and Vinyl Cutters.
