Greetings from President Trevor A. Kubatzke
Fall is here, and with it comes a new academic year full of promise for new and returning students, our faculty and staff, and our entire community.
It's been an eventful and often challenging few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We adapted. We took precautions to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe. Now, as students once again walk the hallways of our campuses, I am thrilled to report that we are thriving.
Lake Michigan College saw a 20 percent increase in enrollment last year thanks, in part, to local, state, and federal programs and the generosity of our donors, who continue to make education more accessible and more affordable.
At LMC, we believe education is essential. It shouldn’t be expensive. That’s why we kicked off the LMC Promise, our bold, new last-dollar program that covers the tuition costs of eligible in-district students who are high school graduates aged 18-24. We designed the program to meet the funding gap between high school graduation and eligibility for the state’s ongoing Michigan Reconnect program, which offers free community college tuition for eligible students 25 or older.
We continue to be inspired by the hundreds of families taking advantage of these incredible opportunities to achieve their dreams, and we look forward to watching these students flourish in their education, and eventually, their careers.
LMC is thriving in other ways, too. In these pages you will learn about new academic programs such as our Registered Behavior Technician and Chocolate and Confections certificates, our community garden, and a new member of our Board of Trustees. We mourn the loss of Merlin Hanson, a former board member and philanthropist whose generosity helped shape the college. And we celebrate our athletic teams, whose high academic standards define what it means to be a student-athlete.
It’s astounding to see how far we’ve come thanks to a community that supports us and our mission. We appreciate you and look forward to continuing our growth together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Trevor A. Kubatzke,
Lake Michigan College President
