Lake Michigan College names Dr. Ken Flowers as Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs

Lake Michigan College has named Dr. Ken Flowers as its new Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Flowers, who served in an interim role after Dr. Leslie Kellogg left last year, has a long history with LMC. He's a graduate of the College, a former faculty member, and, most recently, served as LMC's Dean of Career and Workforce Education.

In his new role, Flowers serves as the College's chief academic officer, providing administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for faculty affairs.

"Ken is an invaluable member of the LMC Family who brings tremendous experience, leadership, and thoughtfulness to this position," LMC President Dr. Trevor Kubatzke said. "His knowledge of LMC as a student, faculty member, and administrator puts him in a rare position to empathize and adapt to shifting needs and the role higher education plays in our community."

Flowers, a St. Joseph resident, is a proud graduate of LMC. He received an associate degree in General Studies and a certificate as a Journeyman Moldmaker in 1991. He spent 14 years in manufacturing, primarily working at Hanson Mold in St. Joseph.

He returned to LMC in 1997 as a Machining and Manufacturing Instructor. In 2006, after earning a master's degree in Career & Technical Education and a Total Quality Management in Education certificate from Ferris State University, Flowers was named Chair of LMC's Technology Department. He also served as the College's Apprenticeship Coordinator and Director of Workforce Training and Development before being named Dean of Career and Workforce Education in 2014.

Flowers earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2015 from Western Michigan University.

"I take the responsibility of this position very seriously," Flowers said. "I intend to partner with faculty and staff to help them achieve excellence in teaching, learning, and service, promoting innovative, inclusive, and innovative educational practices that are true to our College's mission and guiding principles. Ultimately, we aim to provide students and our community with valuable curricular and co-curricular experiences that prepare them for lives of service and leadership."
