LMC Rock/Pop and Jazz Band Concert slated for April 12

The senses will be sent on a musical journey when the Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department presents the Pop/Rock and Jazz Band Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. The concert, held on the LMC Mendel Center Mainstage, brings the audience into the experience through seating on stage with the performers.

Groups providing the evening’s entertainment are the LMC Rock/Pop Ensemble, directed by Don Savoie, and the LMC Jazz Band, directed by Dr. Robert Lunn. Each group features LMC students and community members.

The LMC Pop/Rock Ensemble is a true rock stage band performing music from classic rock hits to contemporary rock. Its playlist for this performance will explore the ’90s California alt-rock scene with “Changes” by the Deftones, “Spiderwebs” by No Doubt, and “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band will also pay homage to classic rock influences with “The Ocean” by Led Zeppelin, among other planned selections.

LMC Jazz Band focuses its repertoire on classical jazz styles, big band/swing era music, and the occasional rock arrangement. Among planned selections for this concert are the 1967 release “Straight No Chaser” by Thelonius Monk, the Paul Desmond jazz standard “Take Five” and “Autumn Leaves” by Joseph Kosma, Johnny Mercer, and Jaques Prevert.

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information about the LMC Visual and Performing Arts Department and performances, visit lakemichigancollege.edu/arts, email mmccaffrey@lakemichigancollege.edu, or call 269-927-8876.
