LMC awards 454 degrees and certificates during May 5 commencement ceremonies

Lake Michigan College hosted its 77th annual commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. (Arts & Sciences and General Studies) and 1 p.m. (Career & Workforce and Health Sciences) on Sunday, May 5, at Lake Michigan College Mendel Center Jenkins Theatre on the Benton Harbor Campus, 2755 E. Napier Ave. 

A total of 425 students received 454 degrees and certificates from 45 areas of study, including 404 associate degrees, 17 advanced certificates, and 33 certificates of achievement. 

One hundred forty-nine graduated with honors, 91 with high honors, and 18 with highest honors. 

Presenters included LMC Board of Trustees Chair John Grover, Trustee Mary Jo Tomasini, LMC President Dr. Trevor A. Kubatzke, Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Ken Flowers, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Linwood Whitten, Dean of Arts & Sciences Kristopher Zook, Dean of Health Sciences Dr. LaToya Mason, Dean of Career & Workforce Education Dr. David Krueger, and student speakers Shaneece Moffitt, Julie Dokter and Halie Saylor. 

Students who received academic affairs program awards are Heather Hasting and Kelly Kulich (Spirit of Nursing Award); Haley Elrick and Xin Hwee Athenabelle Lieu (Bob Schodorf Distinguished Natural Sciences Scholar Award); and Meredith Blake, Brooke Kaminski, Christopher Listenberger, Jeffrey Moore, Bhaumi Patyel, Jacob Saad, and Elizabeth Stine (Betts Rittmeyer Natural Sciences Scholar Award). 

An honorary associate degree was posthumously awarded to Sierra Loughrin.
