BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Lake Michigan College is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Highly Established Action Plan Seal by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) for the 2024 election cycle. This prestigious recognition underscores the college's dedication to promoting nonpartisan democratic engagement and increasing student voter participation.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is a national awards program that recognizes colleges and universities for their commitment to fostering active and informed citizenship among students. By achieving the Highly Established Action Plan Seal, Lake Michigan College has demonstrated its strong commitment to making democratic participation a core value on campus and cultivating a generation of engaged citizens.

To earn this seal, Lake Michigan College developed and implemented a robust action plan aimed at increasing civic learning, political engagement, and voter turnout among its student body. The action plan's strength was evaluated using the Strengthening American Democracy Action Planning Rubric, which assesses the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of campus strategies to promote nonpartisan democratic engagement.

"Lake Michigan College is honored to receive the Highly Established Action Plan Seal from ALL IN," said Tiffany Bohm, LMC Political Science Instructor. "This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to empowering our students to become active participants in our democracy. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for civic learning and engagement that will help shape the future leaders of our community and beyond."

As part of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, Lake Michigan College joins institutions across the country in their efforts to institutionalize nonpartisan democratic engagement. The college's action plan includes participation in the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE), which provides valuable insights into student voting rates and helps guide ongoing efforts to enhance civic participation.

By receiving this seal, Lake Michigan College reaffirms its commitment to increasing student voting rates and fostering a campus culture that values active citizenship and democratic participation. The college will continue to work with ALL IN and other partners to ensure that its students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to be informed, engaged citizens.
