Lake Michigan College recognized as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting
BENTON HARBOR, MICH. - The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) has recognized Lake Michigan College as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The initiative highlights colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation.
LMC joins 471 colleges and universities honored for completing four core actions:
-
Participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
-
Sharing 2022 NSLVE Reports with campus voting data with ALL IN
-
Developing and submitting a 2024 democratic engagement action plan with ALL IN
-
Having a current signatory to ALL IN’s Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.
"Civic engagement is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy. By empowering students to become active, informed citizens, we are helping them understand that their voice and engagement matters," stated Tiffany Bohm, LMC Political Science Instructor.
Bohm explained that LMC brings civic participation to the forefront through various on-campus activities. Among them are voter registration drives, guest speakers, and collaboration with the nonpartisan League of Women Voters of Berrien/Cass County.
“Colleges and universities that intentionally increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates. This year, we saw more colleges step up their efforts to ensure students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
More than 1,075 institutions, enrolling more than 10.8 million students, participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. The organization seeks to make participation in local, state, and federal elections a social norm and substantially increase the number of college students engaged during and between elections, not just at the polls. ALL IN works with college campuses to make nonpartisan civic engagement a part of the culture and curriculum so students graduate with the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and values needed to be informed and active citizens. ALL IN is an initiative of Civic Nation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Learn more here.
