A Message From The President
Dear Graduate of Lake Michigan College:
Congratulations to the class of 2020 and 2021! It’s safe to say that none of us could have imagined the added challenges a global pandemic would create, and yet here you are at this milestone moment.
It is with a sense of great pride that we recognize this tremendous accomplishment. We celebrate your hard work, perseverance, tenacity, and adaptability. We celebrate who you have become and the future you will build as a graduate of Lake Michigan College.
Congratulations, and thank you, also to the friends and family who have supported and encouraged our graduates in their LMC journey. What you have provided, great and small, from financial assistance to moral support, also has helped make today possible.
And, finally, congratulations to the faculty and staff of Lake Michigan College. Each one of us looks forward to this day. No other moment quite captures the joy and satisfaction we get from careers spent helping others achieve some of their most ambitious goals.
Each of us, whether student, family, or faculty, should be proud to know that we are making our communities, our state, our country, and our world stronger by cultivating education. Graduates, as you celebrate this day, remember that you now have the tools to contribute at an even higher level to that progress. As your journey continues, share your strengths and your wisdom, and continue to challenge yourself to reach for that next milestone.
On behalf of the Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff, I wish all the graduates tremendous success in your career and life goals.
Sincerely,
Dr. Trevor A. Kubatzke

Your Student Speaker – Harold Milliner
Whether it was singing in church or school choirs or picking up the saxophone in sixth grade, music has been the one constant in Harold Milliner’s life. However, it wasn’t until he came to Lake Michigan College that he realized he could turn his passion into a career.
“I had no idea,” Harold said. “I owe everything to the faculty in the music program. The support I have received has truly helped me to begin the amazing journey ahead confidently. All the achievements I have are because they offered me the opportunity and space that I needed to shine and excel.”
Born in Niles, Harold spent much of his childhood in Berrien Springs but graduated with honors in 2015 from Forest Lake Academy in Apopka, Florida. After a Summer jumpstart program at Southern Adventist University, he decided to return to Michigan. He spent two years at Andrews University studying physical therapy before deciding to come to Lake Michigan College and focus on music.
Harold got involved in the campus community from the start. He’s a member of the LMC Concert Choir, its chamber ensemble, Sound Waves, and the a cappella group, Harbor Lights. Since its inception, he has been a critical member of the Music Production Technology Club and started LMC’s Birdwatching and Animal Appreciation Club. Harold also has served as both Vice President and President of the Student Senate and is the chapter President of LMC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Harold credits LMC Visual and Performing Arts Chair Kristopher Zook, particularly with helping him hone his performance and leadership skills en route to earning an Associate in Applied Science – Music.
This Fall, Harold plans to attend Western Michigan University, where he has been accepted into the Music Therapy program. It is a perfect way, he said, to use music to impact people’s lives.
“I just love helping people,” he said. “I love seeing smiles on people’s faces when you allow them just to be themselves. You have to give them that opportunity.”
