The resources on this page can guide you through the process of becoming a certified law enforcement officer by enrolling in the Lake Michigan College Police Academy. Please reach out to the Police Academy Director to learn more about the special admissions process required to enter the Academy.
Tuition for the Police Academy is a flat fee based on either the student or the sponsor’s residency. Students currently employed by an agency who is sponsoring the student will be charged based on the residency of the agency. Students who are not currently employed by an agency and are self-pay are charged based on the student’s residency as outlined in the Tuition and Residency policy.
In-district: $8700.00
Out of district: $9500.00
Please note: Police Academy I & II must be taken together and are only offered during the summer semester.
Application to the police academy is required, and acceptance is a competitive process and is not guaranteed.
Police academy candidates must meet all MCOLES eligibility requirements.
Pre-service candidates must have acquired either a two- or four-year college degree OR will complete their degree at the conclusion of the academy to be eligible to apply for a seat in the police academy. Sponsored candidates do not need to meet this degree requirement.
