Dr. Paine has been teaching history at LMC since August 2002. He received a B. A. and M. A. in history from Michigan State University in 1990 and 1993, respectively, and a Ph. D. in American history from the University of Kentucky in 1998. His dissertation was titled, “‘Kentucky will be the last to give up the Union’: Kentucky Politics, 1844-1861,” explaining why Kentucky did not secede and join the Confederate States of America. Before arriving at LMC. Dr. Paine taught at Northern Kentucky University, Lexington Community College (now Bluegrass Community and Technical College), Indiana University Southeast, the University of Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee State University.
