Transfer to a 4 Year School

Start here, go anywhere

You won't just save money by spending your first two years at Lake Michigan College. Community college students are well-prepared for college life, and do very well academically compared to their peers who start out at four-year institutions.

LMC's Academic Advisors can help you make sure that all your hard work here will get you credit at your new college or university. Make an appointment and go over your plan with an advisor.

ADVISING OFFICE >>

The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) facilitates the transfer of students from community colleges to four-year colleges and universities in Michigan. By carefully choosing courses, you may obtain an associate degree from LMC and complete the MTA; however, you do not need to obtain a degree in order to earn the MTA designation.

If you would like to request the Michigan Transfer Agreement endorsement, you should review your MTA audit in DegreeWorks via your Student Profile. Once those requirements are met, submit the request form.

To fulfill the MTA requirements, you must complete at least 30 credits, with at least a "C" (2.00) grade in each course. At least one college-level course must be completed at LMC. All credits will be certified by the LMC Records Office according to the following distribution:

Transfer Articulation Agreements

Lake Michigan College has the following transfer articulation agreements in place with the universities listed below.

On-Campus Transfer Partnership - Siena Heights University

Siena Heights University

Transfer to colleges and universities across Michigan

MiTransfer Pathways is a statewide initiative that provides general guidance about transferring courses in specific academic programs to participating colleges and universities in Michigan. MiTransfer Pathways will allow LMC students in specific areas of study the opportunity to become aware of and complete commonly required courses for their area of study that could contribute toward their bachelor’s degree.

MiTransfer Pathway Courses

Faculty from across Michigan in each of the MiTransfer Pathways identified courses that commonly meet requirements of the bachelor’s degree programs at participating 4-year institutions—and that a student could take at a community college then transfer to a participating four-year institution. These are called “MiTransfer Pathway Courses.”

The MiTransfer Pathway Courses for each MiTransfer Pathway are listed below under each MiTransfer Pathway heading.

Participating Institutions and Exceptions

Participating 4-year institutions are those institutions that have signed on to a MiTransfer Pathway Agreement, agreeing to award equivalent credit for the MiTransfer Pathways Courses identified (if grade requirements for that institution are met), and apply the courses to the specific bachelor’s degree requirements associated with the MiTransfer Pathway—unless otherwise noted by an exception in the specific MiTransfer Pathway Agreement.

There are different participating institutions for each of the MiTransfer Pathways based on area of study. Institutions may be part of one MiTransfer Pathway, but not another.

See each MiTransfer Pathway noted below for participating institutions, the agreement, and any course exceptions.

The MiTransfer Pathways and Courses provide general guidance for participating institutions—however, you should always research, and contact, the 4-year institution you plan to attend to obtain detailed information about transfer requirements, if the institution you plan to attend participates in the MiTransfer Pathway you are interested in following, and how the MiTransfer Pathway Courses are accepted and applied.

LMC Degree Completion & Graduation

You may take MiTransfer Pathway Courses as part of the LMC major associated with your area of study. Please see the Academic Programs in the College Catalog for the various majors and their requirements.

There may be additional LMC courses you could take at LMC that transfer and meet requirements depending on the institution to which you are transferring.

LMC advisors are available to help you navigate transfer resources and create an individualized transfer plan, including selection of courses, that meets all LMC and transfer institution requirements.
