Lake Michigan Performing Arts, Student Life & Resident Life presents a "Black History Month Celebration" at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Hawk's Nest at Lake Michigan College's Benton Harbor campus.
The event includes live music, free food and a special screening of "Whatever Happened to Idlewild?" The film, directed by Coy Davis, looks at the historical significance of the black resort community near Grand Rapids, founded in the 1920s and active until the late 1960s, which was a haven for black artists, performers, politicians, and other professionals. Davis will be in attendance and will host a Q&A following the screening.
Admission is free. For more information, email Kristopher Zook at kzook@lakemichigancollege.edu.
